Vastus lateralis

One of the largest muscles of the quadriceps, and that which is routinely used for muscle biopsy or EMG analysis during cycle exercise.

Velocity

The rate of movement, or speed, typically measured in m/min, km/hr, etc.

VO2 peak

The peak rate of oxygen consumption by the body that occurs with no evidence of a VO2 plateau.

VO2 plateau

The decreasing slope of the VO2-time response during incremental exercise. Theoretically, a true plateau exists when the VO2 slope has decreased to 0.

VO2max

The maximal rate of oxygen consumption by the body. This is best determined by detecting a plateau in VO2 despite continued increases in exercise intensity.
